The Kyle Brennan Investigation
Crime Scene Information: Systemic deception and police failures: When Kyle Brennan’s grieving family demanded answers about basic forensic procedures, Detective Steve Bohling of the Clearwater Police Department dismissed their concerns. He claimed that no gunshot residue (GSR) test was performed on Kyle’s hands, and that neither the weapon nor the scene was processed for fingerprints. Yet police reports reveal a different story: forensic investigator Jennifer McCabe did conduct GSR and fingerprint testing. In a disturbing move, Detective Bohling admitted to withholding the GSR test from further analysis. Fourteen pieces of evidence, including the firearm, yielded no fingerprints or ridge detail. The bullet that killed Kyle and the box of ammunition were never recovered from Thomas Brennan’s apartment—the very place where he lost his life. With a missing bullet, no GSR test, and a weapon negative for fingerprints, it remains unclear who pulled the trigger or whether the gun found at the scene was the weapon that ended Kyle’s life. These glaring omissions and contradictions leave many unanswered questions: Who pulled the trigger that killed Kyle? Why was the investigation mishandled at every turn? And can justice ever be served when the truth is buried so deeply?

Exit wounds are usually larger than entrance wounds because, as a round moves through the victim’s body, it slows and explodes within the tissue and surrounding muscle. This slowing down of the projectile means that as it reaches the end of its trajectory, it has to push harder to overcome the resistance. This means the exit wound is normally larger and considerably more destructive than its precursor, the entrance wound.
