Reblogged this on worldtraveller70.
Thank you for reblogging argyris!
In the ’80s I was in the army and stationed in Bamberg. St. Michaels was magnificent, and a beautiful and powerful experience when I visited.
Through you, I have come to know Kyle. Thanks for sharing. He’s a beautiful person. 🙂
Thank you! My day has become so much better on account of your comment.
I’m happy to make your day better. I read your post and he’s a wonderful young man.
Thank you for reading my memoir and for taking the time to write. The story you shared with the violin player is very moving. Thank goodness her children pressed her to share what she had experienced during the war. It would have been a shame if it had become lost to time. They say when a memory persists, you should write about it. My morning in Bamberg was one of these memories. Kyle was expecting to hear a World War II story of a very different nature. I was very honored to be able to write this story as sad and tragic as it is. Lest we forget or like the shopkeeper told Kyle-“people forget the pain of others.”
That was a very moving story. I don’t know what happened to Kyle but I’ll look a bit farther through your posts. My son was born in the US in 1987. I couldn’t bear to think of losing him so my heartfelt condolences. It is so true that nobody asks the elders here what they witnessed etc. during the war. I suppose it’s in the vein of not embarrassing anyone, but the Germans never shy away from airing documentaries with film footage of the war. The pictures are graphic, lest we forget. Only the other evening ,there was a popular talk show with a 90+ Jewish woman with her daughter. The 90+ woman had been here before apparently and was interviewed on Tv because she escaped Auschwitz and one of the other concentration camps. She was a fine violin player and that’s what saved her and her sister. So she was rescued by the allied forces and went to live in the Uk. She said she make a pact of sorts with her sister never to speak of the atrocities, that she wanted to move on and not look back. And then she had two children and eventually, they became curious and wanted to hear what happened. I think the daughter found some old photos somewhere. She took her mother to task and her mother wrote it all down in a Memoir, which she intended to give to her children. She never intended for it to be published. Her daughter converted it into a script, I believe. But the irony was that the daugher never felt at home in the UK and it was only after coming to Berlin that she felt at home. She also wrote a book, in which she conversed with her deceased grandparents (nothing mediumistic, just an imaginary conversation, as I understood it). THey were victims of the holocaust. Her mother just shook her head. She said she hated hearing German spoken when she first moved to the UK, anything to do with Germany or Germans made her skin crawl and then she ends up coming to Germany as a heroine and her own daughter wants to come and live here. Life is strange! Oh, by the way. I loved your story and I’ve never been to Bamberg but if I do ever get there, I’ll look for that little shop.
My thoughts, prayers and good wishes are with you. Victoria, in your journey for justice for your beautiful son..
Victoria, I am wiping my eyes and thinking of you. I am so deeply sorry your beautiful son has passed.
Speechless. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing. Takes courage to share something as personal. And sorry to know about your loss. I have two boys, the younger being 21 now, and I just cannot imagine life without them. The German example is also a lesson as to how the inability of a generation to stand up to the crimes of a few people has led to shame and embarrassment that has lasted almost a century.
Beautiful and haunting.
A touching story, beautifully told.
Heartbroken story! Life is not fair when it takes young life !!! 🙁

Your son strikes me as such an empath…this is so profound on so many levels..the connection between the women murdered and the Nazi desire to extinguish the feminine reminds me so much of the deep psychological writing of therapist Marion Woodman who draws the parallels between it all. Forces if darkness and the sadness of seeing children on their way to death and the loss of your son. Incredibly moved by this profound piece of writing. 💖
Thank you so-very much for taking the time to read the story and for your thoughtful comment. I’m going to follow up with your suggestion and research “Marion Woodman.” Once again… a heartfelt thank you!
I loved you writing and am so moved by tour oerceptiins and experience…thank you for being here. 💖
Beautiful , moving , endearing . Thank you.
I am so very sorry for your loss…
Hi Victoria. Thank you for visiting and following HoB. Much appreciated!
I was moved by your posts on your blog. Wishing you all the best and lots of strength.
Thank you, Herman. Your support is much appreciated. It’s because of caring people like your self that makes our world a better place. Thanks again for the likes and follow!
Thank you for taking the time to read “The Angels of Bamberg.” I had heard that if a memory persists it’s a sign that you need to put it in writing. After the piece was completed I was encouraged to enter it in a writers contest. Something amazing and unexpected happened-it won an award! To me it meant that those “Angels” would not be forgotten. Thanks again to all for stopping by and reading this story.
I forgot to say that in 1971, I fell through a hole in the floor of a store, hitting my head on the floor, falling 6 feet to land on stairs, passing out and falling some more. My back was in pain for years. I was finally led to a Reflexologist and got my first pain relief. I ended up getting trained in it, then learning many more holistic/spiritual therapies and it began my 40 + year career. If you haven’t tried Reflexology, it might be helpful for you!
What a beautiful story! I’m glad you followed my blog and introduced me to yours. I must have remembered a past life involving Germany as during my childhood in So. AZ, I played Germans and Jews and was always attempting to hide from the Germans. I grew up with Jewish Mom and Grandmother.
The question of how do you stand up to evil is a challenging one. Since you follow my blog, you will read that I have spent lifetime after lifetime fighting the dark, millions and millions of years. Even at the age of 3 I remembered being tortured and killed over and over for my work.
At the same time, many of those serving HItler were forced into inscription…..do as he said or die. Terrence Malick has a new movie out about this issue “A Hidden Life”.
Many blessings to you!
Katelon
Thank you for your message of support Katelon. What you’ve experienced in your life is fascinating and I appreciate your taking the time to write about it. I’m going to watch the “Terrence Malick” movie that you recommended. Thanks again-wishing you all good things!
Beautiful tender tribute…sending peace ☮️ Hedy
This is moving, touching deep. You are beautiful too. I see it in your lines, and between..
